AI Brings Dinosaurs to Life: Shanghai Museum Launches Immersive Exhibition
A groundbreaking exhibition, “The World of Chinese Dinosaurs,” has launched at the Shanghai Natural History Museum, with artificial intelligence serving as its core engine. Thanks to AI, the exhibition features hyper-realistic 3D dinosaur reconstructions that are capable of movement and interacting with their environment, creating a powerful and seamless illusion of life.
The Role of AI in the Exhibition:
- Bringing Giants to Life: AI algorithms analyzed paleontological data on skeletal structures and potential biomechanics to generate precise and natural-looking movement models for each dinosaur species.
- Interactive Scenarios: Certain installations use AI to respond to visitors’ actions—the dinosaurs can “notice” guests, follow them with their gaze, or vocalize, making the immersive experience unique for every person.
- Environmental Reconstruction: AI helped reconstruct and animate the landscapes of the Mesozoic Era, including its flora and fauna, creating a holistic and scientifically-grounded ecosystem around the giant reptiles.
The exhibition’s foundation is built upon 118 genuine skeletons and fossils, assembled for the first time, which includes over 10 specimens never before displayed to the public. Now, augmented by artificial intelligence, these ancient relics have been given a digital embodiment, offering a fresh perspective on their appearance and behavior.
