ByteDance Releases Seedream 4.5: A Faster, More Consistent Image Model
ByteDance has launched Seedream 4.5, an updated version of its image generation and editing model. This release comes just three months after its predecessor, Seedream 4.0, which topped both the Text-to-Image and Image Editing Arena leaderboards on the Artificial Analysis platform in September, surpassing Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (also known as Nano Banana). This rapid update cycle highlights an aggressive pace compared to competitors like Midjourney, which update their models less frequently.
Key improvements in version 4.5 focus on speed, consistency, and text handling. According to partner platforms, image generation is now 30% faster than in version 4.0. The model also now supports up to 15 reference images simultaneously (increased from 10), allowing for more precise control over style, characters, and objects when creating series. Developers also report enhanced typography rendering: text on posters, packaging, and within interfaces should remain legible even in complex compositions—a persistent challenge for many image generators.
Other announced enhancements include more stable character consistency across frames (maintaining facial features, clothing, materials), improved understanding of spatial logic (proportions, perspective, scene depth), and support for output resolutions up to 4K. Architecturally, Seedream 4.5, like its predecessor, is built on a Diffusion Transformer (DiT) with a highly efficient VAE encoder, enabling fast generation while preserving quality.
Internal benchmarking on MagicBench indicates that Seedream 4.5 shows significant improvement over version 4.0 in three key metrics: prompt adherence, reference alignment, and aesthetic quality. While ByteDance has not disclosed specific numerical scores, the company has published comparative radar charts. Given that version 4.0 already outperformed Nano Banana, Seedream 4.5 is positioned as a potential competitor to models like Nano Banana Pro.
The model is already available through partner platforms such as Replicate (in beta status), Pixazo, Atlas Cloud, and others. The cost per image generation is $0.04 (compared to $0.03 for Seedream 4.0).
