“Code: G – The Dawn of Attention” Premieres in Korea, Marking a Milestone in Human-AI Co-Creation
On December 27th, a significant cinematic event will take place in South Korea—the premiere of the anthology film “Code: G – The Dawn of Attention.” This project is a pioneering collaboration between human filmmakers and generative artificial intelligence.
The film is a collection of five short stories spanning genres such as science fiction, detective thriller, zombie horror, and action, all exploring the relationship between humanity and technology. It will be released nationwide on December 27th across 33 CGV theaters.
Ahead of the premiere, a special preview and Q&A session with the directors was held on December 23rd at the CGV Yongsan I Park Mall in Seoul, further heightening anticipation. The directors unanimously emphasized that while AI served as a powerful creative tool, the ultimate storytelling and emotional depth remained a distinctly human achievement.
Directors’ Insights:
- Kim Joo-shin (“Master Template: Echo”): Stressed that although the visual materials were generated by AI, the final assembly and creative narrative were entirely human-driven.
- Kim Yeong-gi (“Memory Management Bureau”): Noted that AI does not replace an actor’s emotions but rather enhances and expands them.
- Hong Ki-seong (“DMZ”): Shared that he intentionally used AI for action scenes to emphasize unpredictability and chaos over controlled precision.
- Song Yeong-yun (“Order in Chaos”): Likened AI’s error data to the human subconscious, affirming that the final creative touch always rests with people.
- Kim Gwang-sik (“Day One”): Offered a broader perspective, predicting that AI is more likely to replace technologies like CGI rather than humans, and will ultimately coexist with traditional filmmaking.
As moderator and journalist Kwak Myeong-don commented, this premiere is a historic moment—one where future audiences might say, “I was there when it began.”
The film is produced by MBC C&I, The Ape Squad, Studio Freewillusion, and MCA, with KT as a co-organizer and investor. Distribution is handled by KT Studio Genie and Film City SMC.
