Michael Mann Considers Using AI for ‘Heat 2,’ But Not for the Sake of Technology

Famous director Michael Mann, despite Hollywood’s general wariness of artificial intelligence, has admitted he might use it for the long-awaited sequel, ‘Heat 2.’

Speaking at the Lumière Festival in Lyon, where he received an honorary award, Mann explained his approach to technology. He stated that he is not interested in experimenting with technology just for the sake of it. He is willing to turn to new tools like AI only when he has a specific creative or dramatic need.

“If I need to solve a specific aesthetic problem, I dive deep into whatever is required for it,” the director stated.

In the context of ‘Heat 2,’ such a need could involve showing characters at different ages. Mann noted that technologies for aging and de-aging actors with AI could play a very important role in the film.

Additionally, the director confirmed a major theatrical release for the sequel. The film is expected to be released in approximately 4,000 theaters across the United States and will be shown for at least 45 days.
