Microsoft Forms Team to Develop Medical ‘Superintelligence’

The company Microsoft is forming a new team called the MAI Superintelligence Team, with the goal of creating artificial intelligence that significantly surpasses human capabilities in specific fields. The first area of focus will be medical diagnostics.

According to the project lead, Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft plans to make significant investments in this initiative. Unlike some competitors who are striving to create a general-purpose AI, Microsoft is focusing on solving specific tasks. The reason for this is doubt about the ability to control fully autonomous and self-learning systems.

The company calls its approach “humanist superintelligence”—technology that solves defined problems with real-world benefits for humanity. Examples of such tasks include developing new molecules for medicine or improving battery efficiency.

Suleyman stated that in the field of medical diagnostics, the company expects to achieve the level of “medical superintelligence” within the next two to three years. Such an AI would be able to detect preventable diseases at early stages, potentially increasing people’s healthy life expectancy.
