PetPhone: The World’s First Smartphone for Your Pet

PetPhone is a compact device that attaches to your cat or dog’s collar, allowing you to stay connected with your pet from anywhere. The device was unveiled at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, received an IFA innovation award, and went on sale for around $90.The most interesting feature of PetPhone is two-way voice communication. This is not just a “smart collar” but a full-fledged communicator. Your pet can “call” you in two ways. First, through action training: you can teach your pet a specific movement, such as three jumps in a row, and the device will automatically initiate a call to your phone. Second, automatic distress detection works: if the AI determines that your pet is barking persistently or showing signs of stress, PetPhone can call you by itself. When you receive a call, you can talk to your pet, play a pre-recorded voice message, or play relaxing music.PetPhone uses a combination of six positioning technologies: GPS for open areas, LBS via cell towers, Wi-Fi for indoor spaces, Bluetooth for close range up to 50 meters, and Active Radar for search within a 50-meter radius. Safety features include geofencing — you set a safe zone on the map and receive a notification if your pet leaves it. There’s also night search: the device has an LED light and can emit a sound signal on command from your phone. You can view the route to see where your pet has been.Built-in sensors and AI algorithms analyze your pet’s behavior and alert you to potential problems. The device tracks how much your pet runs, eats, sleeps, and rests. The AI learns the normal daily routine and notices deviations, such as if your pet becomes too lethargic or unusually restless. When anomalies are detected, you receive a push notification. The PetPhone app includes a social platform where owners can create a pet profile, share photos, and get care advice.Technical specifications: weight 37 grams, IP67 water and dust resistance — the device withstands rain, dirt, and brief submersion. Magnetic charging, up to 5 days of battery life, available in green and pink. Recommended pet weight is at least 3.5 kilograms. Important note: the device requires a monthly subscription for mobile connectivity, approximately $10 per month.PetPhone is ideal for those who want more than just GPS tracking — it’s about maintaining an emotional connection with your pet. Pros: two-way communication, pet-initiated calling, six positioning systems, AI health analysis, water protection. Cons: requires a monthly subscription, not every pet will learn to make calls, only for pets weighing at least 3.5 kg.
