Tencent’s HunyuanVideo 1.5: A Powerful Open-Source AI Video Model for Consumer Hardware

Tencent has released HunyuanVideo 1.5, a new open-source video generation model that is now considered one of the strongest open-source solutions in the industry. Built on the DiT architecture and containing 8.3 billion parameters, the model is efficient enough to run even on consumer-grade graphics cards with approximately 14 GB of VRAM. In other words, high-quality video generation is no longer the exclusive domain of data centers.

The model generates 5-10 second videos in 480p and 720p, and then allows upscaling the resolution to 1080p through its built-in super-resolution feature. As a result, users can achieve almost cinematic detail with very modest hardware requirements. In terms of quality, HunyuanVideo 1.5 is already being compared to closed, commercial models, yet it is freely available without any licenses or paid APIs.

The project is open-source and ready for download and integration. The source code is available on GitHub, while the model weights and pipelines can be accessed via Hugging Face.

The arrival of HunyuanVideo 1.5 significantly raises the bar for open-source video generators. It now enables full-fledged AI video work without cloud access or rented GPUs, making the model particularly appealing for indie developers, digital artists, researchers, and startups testing ideas on local machines.
