Unitree Unveils As2 Load-Carrying Robot: 65 kg Payload and 20 km Range

Chinese company Unitree Robotics, renowned for its humanoid and quadruped robots, has introduced a new development—the industrial robodog As2. The model is designed to tackle practical tasks, ranging from logistics to rescue operations.

Specifications and Payload Capacity
The new robot weighs 18 kg (including the battery), yet it can withstand an impressive static load of up to 65 kg. In dynamic mode, while moving with a payload, the device can carry up to 15 kg and cover a distance of more than 13 kilometers on a single charge. The As2’s maximum travel speed exceeds 5 m/s.

High maneuverability and power are ensured by low-inertia inner rotor motors and industrial-grade crossed roller bearings, delivering a torque of 90 N·m. This enables the robot to climb steps up to 25 cm high, ascend slopes of up to 40 degrees, and mount vertical platforms as high as half a meter.

Autonomy and Connectivity
Power is provided by a battery with a capacity of 648 Wh (15,000 mAh). In standby mode or when moving without a load, the unit can operate for over four hours and travel up to 20 km.

Control and data transmission are facilitated by built-in GPS and 4G modules. Computational power is handled by an 8-core processor. Additionally, the robot is protected against dust and moisture according to the IP54 standard and can operate in a wide temperature range, from harsh -20 °C to scorching +50 °C.

Intelligent Capabilities and Versions
The EDU version is of particular interest, as it is compatible with the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX board. This allows developers to run complex artificial intelligence and computer vision algorithms on the platform. The platform itself is open to third-party programmers, broadening its potential applications.

Unitree notes that the As2 is intended for use in search and rescue services, agriculture, inspection of hard-to-reach infrastructure facilities, and warehouse logistics. For the convenience of customers, the new model will be available in three configurations: AIR, PRO, and EDU.
