Xpeng Unveils More Human-like Next-Generation Iron Robot
At its annual AI Day event, Chinese company Xpeng introduced an updated version of its humanoid robot, Iron. The developers claimed it is “the most human-like robot” to date, a fact demonstrated by its smooth walking and realistic posture during a live demonstration.
Key features of the new Iron:
- Anthropomorphic Body: It now features a human-like spine, bionic muscles, and flexible skin.
- High Mobility: Its arms have 22 degrees of freedom, and engineers added passive degrees of freedom to its feet for smoother walking.
- Powerful “Brain”: The robot is powered by three Turing AI processors with immense computational power and is controlled by an advanced AI model that allows it to communicate and manipulate objects.
The company is targeting commercial applications for Iron in industry. Its partner will be the steel company Baosteel, which will test the robot for tasks such as quality inspection. Buyers will also be offered customization options, including the choice of the robot’s gender and physique. Mass production is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026.
