Suno Unveils “World’s First” Generative DAW, Reimagining Music Creation

Once again, there’s news from Suno. The company has introduced Suno Studio, what it calls the “world’s first” generative Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), claiming it “fundamentally rethinks the music creation process.”

“Traditional DAWs have long served producers, but they’ve always had one limitation: you can only work with what already exists,” the company stated in its announcement.

The firm’s website notes that Suno Studio changes the approach to music by placing AI-powered generative technology at the heart of the creative process. It aims to provide artists with the ability to break through barriers and discover new musical horizons.

Suno Studio combines generative music technology with professional multi-track editing tools, allowing users to create instrumental tracks, arrange compositions, and export audio files. The platform also supports the uploading of audio samples.

This launch follows shortly after the release of version 5—an updated generative music model that the company calls its “most advanced to date.” According to Suno, it “composes like a musician, adapts like a co-writer, and creates like never before.”

Suno co-founder and CEO Mikey Shulman described these developments as part of a broader transformation in music production: “We are witnessing a paradigm shift happening right now in studios, as AI becomes part of the creative process for a growing number of artists.”

Meanwhile, Spotify is implementing a range of new tools and policies to detect and label musical content created with artificial intelligence.

Key measures include adopting the DDEX standard for disclosing the use of AI in music creation, launching filters to detect spam and fake tracks, and banning unauthorized voice cloning and deepfakes. These steps are aimed at protecting artists’ rights and increasing transparency for listeners.

Suno Studio includes features for generating musical elements that adapt to existing audio tracks. Users can control BPM, volume, pitch, and other parameters.

The product launch occurs against a backdrop of growing legal pressure on Suno from the music industry. Major record labels have filed an updated complaint, alleging that the company used copyright-protected music to train its AI models.

Suno Studio is available as part of the Premier plan, which costs $30 per month.
