Hollywood on the Brink of a New Era: AI Actress Tilly Norwood Seeks an Agent
You may not yet be familiar with the name Tilly Norwood—an actress who has sparked significant interest from numerous Hollywood agents. The irony, however, lies in the fact that Tilly Norwood is not a living person; she is a hyper-realistic digital character created by artificial intelligence. This development casts a new light on the recent guild strikes (SAG-AFTRA), a central demand of which was protection from such technologies.
The project is the brainchild of actress, comedian, and technologist Eline van der Velden and her company, Xicoia. Van der Velden presents Tilly as an actress “available on demand”: she can be cast, directed, and is always available. She describes her company as an “AI talent studio” that plans to develop and promote a range of digital stars in the future.
According to van der Velden and Verena Puhm (from Luma AI’s Studio Dream Lab LA), movie studios are already quietly beginning to integrate artificial intelligence, and major announcements on this front are expected soon.
“Back in February, during our meetings, everyone was skeptically dismissing the very possibility of such a scenario, but by May they were saying, ‘We need to work with you,'” shared van der Velden at the Zurich Summit. “At first, everyone asked, ‘What is this?’ but now we are preparing to announce which agency will be representing Tilly in the coming months.”
Verena Puhm added that studios have historically been slow to adapt publicly, but they need an influx of new technological solutions from creative specialists.
If a digital character successfully signs with a major agency, it will open a new chapter of debate about the future of the film industry. Just two years ago, Hollywood ground to a halt due to strikes fueled partly by fears of AI. Now, the situation could become even more acute.
Tilly Norwood is evolving from a one-off experiment into a full-fledged “actress” capable of taking jobs from humans. Such AI performers are available at a moment’s notice, do not demand high fees, personal trailers, or intimacy coordinators. Tilly’s emergence could mark the beginning of an era with endless customizable digital actors, fundamentally changing the rules of the game in the entertainment industry.
